In 1993, I joined forces with the captivating São Paulo-born vocalist and bassist Isabel Monteiro—along with Los Angeles-based drummer Mike Chylinski. We united as the three-piece band Drugstore and fast became the ultimate purveyors of alternative, late-night indie pop—smoky & intoxicating, spirited & fearless, laced with a sly edge. The band quickly attracted attention with the acclaimed debut single “Alive” and soon after signed a major record deal with Go-Discs, eventually moving to Polygram.

Drugstore made a significant impact on the UK indie scene with memorable live performances at major festivals like the Phoenix Festival, followed by storming sets at Reading and Glastonbury. Extensive tours and support slots with bands such as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumpkins, Tindersticks, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and many others helped pave the way, as we carved out a compelling niche in the indie music landscape, with multiple singles earning Single of the Week honours. A standout duet with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke on the single “El President,” reached number 20 on the UK Singles Chart and stayed on the chart for three weeks.

In September 2013, the iconic indie label Cherry Red Records celebrated twenty years of the British alternative band, by releasing a definitive compilation album “The Best of Drugstore.”
